For those heaven bent on shoving Jagagban
off his throne; I think they should take a moment to weigh the consequences of
their actions peradventure they succeed in the long run.
I have absolutely no problem with Mr Jimi
Agbaje as a man but I must say that his recent foray into the dinning room of
the ruling party may be indicative of desperation or opportunism. It is in a
way similar to to the migration of Nuhu Ribadu in the same direction. These men
are definitely competent enough to lead but when we look at them and the party
they will be striking for; one cannot just look beyond the PDP's array of
controversial talent and Jonathan-worshipping governors and aspirants. The PDP
governors over the years are known to regularly assemble for any and every
reason at the capital for party affairs. This to me is nothing but distraction
that I think a serious Lagos governor shouldn't be bothered with. Will Uncle
Jimi indulge in such gallivanting as well or break any yoke of bondage the new
ex-con godfather of Lagos and his travel bags will place on him? Some people
want to get rid of the current godfather; are they aware that another godfather
would simply occupy the throne?
Do people naively assume that Jimi Agbaje
who was a recent entrant into the umbrella carrying camp won last night's
primary because of his goodness or quality of his credentials?Do you realise
who the people he's defeated are? Many of that group had waited for this chance,
many have kissed numerous gluteus maximi and toe nails to raise their umbrellas
only for a rookie to suddenly grab the trophy. Is it not just as strange as a
newly promoted side winning the EPL with every decision going for them?
Koro in particular has been senator,
ambassador, minister with only governor left to realistically complete the
allignment of his stars. With his controversial past and the broadcasted scenes
of commotion and ballot box snatching from the primary centre; this doesn't
look to me like finished business just yet. They reported about 806 registered
delegates prior to voting only for the final total to become about 870; This is
like the miracle of 5 loaves and 2 fish.
Tinubu may not be liked by many inclusive
of myself and he definitely isn't clean. I must however credit him for holding
on to Lagos by hook and crook in 2003 when his fellow AD governors opted to
channel their innermost primitive sentimental energies to propel a sectarian
agenda masterminded and floated by Obasanjo. Nigeria would perhaps have been a
nonexistent geographical entity long ago if there never was a semblance of an
opposition however insignificant at the time. He must also get credit for
rallying his vanquished troops to reclaim most of the southwest from the greedy
PDP in 2007.
Raji Fashola was relatively unknown and so
is Ambode. I have just read through his CV and cannot help but be impressed
although he had a lot of "I this and I that". I am certain that the
Lagos guber debates would be intriguing without anyone necessarily trouncing
the other. I only hope people will be with their minds open to listen to both
candidates when they debate and not merely reserve their sympathy votes for
Agbaje since they didn't vote for him in the last elections and to spite the
Bourdillon mafia. I do not think Agbaje will be free of the PDP if he wins;
there is no way he would have gotten the nod without offering a sacrifice
especially at the expense of the legendary Koro.
Those who voted for the man and not the
party in 2011 have since seen the light that a very wrong party can corrupt
even the "humblest" looking of them all that is if it isn't the other
way around. Many have repeatedly said the PDP and APC are synonyms but I am yet
to see ex-cons and all manner of shady characters emerging as primary winners
on the APC side.
Nobody needs to be agreed with my ranting;
I am only expressing my concern that a PDP Agbaje is a greater risk for me.
